The Balblair 2000 single malt whisky has been personally selected by Balblair Distillery manager John MacDonald which he believes best exemplifies Balblair Highland Single Malt Whisky. I was privileged to meet John in September 2009 who took time out and showed me round the distillery, his enthusiasm for the whisky is infectious and as I said to his brother Kenny stillman at Glenmorangie, 'Balblair is a very undersold whisky'. and I mean it.
This Balblair 2000 is well presented, this will, i'm sure raise the profile of this delightful whisky.
Balblair distillery is one of Scotlands oldest working distilleries, dating back to 1790 though the current buildings date from 1872. It has two working stills with a third unused for twenty five years riveted spirit still. The distillery like many others current and lost, has a history of closure, 1915 to 1947 and again from 1995 to 1996 when it was sold by Allied to Inver house with a view to bottling as a single malt, a job handled in Allied's days by Gordon and MacPhail now bottled in house.
