This Bladnoch 16 year old distillery expression has been bottled at the distillery, not on any high tech bottling line but hand filled straight from the cask, they are not surprisingly unchill filtered. They are bottled at 55%abv.
The label has the hardy Scotch Blackface sheep on.
Bladnoch Distillery is Scotlands most southerly distillery lying near Wigtown, Galloway. Opened in 1817 it had a chequered career - closed during the first world war then again in 1938, opened again in 1956, two further stills were added in 1966, then closed again in 1993 by UDV and everyone thought this was going to join the long list of 'Lost Distilleries'.
However nobody reckoned on Raymond Armstrong from Northern Ireland. He bought the distillery under the condition that it remained silent. However in 2000 he breathed fresh air into the distillery and limited production commenced. I visited the distillery in early 2000 and Mr Armstrong took me round personally, his enthusiasm for the future was an inspiration, I'm very pleased to see that his dream is taking place.
