This Bunnahabhain 25 Year Old Whisky is from Islay's least known distillery. Beautifully presented in a solid wooden box it has been bottled at 46.3% abv.
Bunnahabhain Distillery (meaning 'The mouth/foot of the river'in gaelic) is Islay's most northerly and remote distillery. The distillery was from the day construction started (in 1881, taking two years to build) designed to produce malt whisky for blending purposes. Like most distilleries there were long silent periods, wars, depression, recessions etc.
It is a large distillery capable of producing up to two million litres a year of spirit. Initially it had two stills, this being doubled in 1963. The initial make when the distillery was built was peaty, however over a period of time this dropped to two parts per million, similar in amount to Bruichladdich ten year old, but that's where the likeness ends!
