This Glen Scotia 12 year old cask strength whisky was distilled 04/02/1992 then matured in refill Sherry Hogsheads numbers 99,103,104 then bottled on 12/09/2006 by Gordon & Macphail at 59.9%abv and is one of their Cask Strength Whisky range.
Glen Scotia was built in 1832 and for some of the reasons below has had long periods of silence. It has two stills giving a capacity of about 750,000 litres per year, and now owned by Loch Lomond distilling continues.
Campbeltown is a town near the tip of the Kintyre peninsula, surrounding an east facing bay, a natural sheltered harbour, there were 33 distilleries at one time or another in this small town, making it the whisky capital of Scotland.
Due to depressions, prohibition in the United States, over production, blended whiskies, wars, the decline of the British Empire and a reputation for poor quality by some distilleries all played a part in the closing of all but two of the Campbeltown distilleries Springbank and Glen Scotia, which soldiered on for years, however they have now been joined by the resurrected Glengyle Distillery.
