Official Tasting Notes
Appearance - bright lemon straw
Nose - juicy and fresh. A blanket of creamed soda and wild strawberries backed up lush late harvest desert wine. Hints of sherbet and ripe cherries. Very fruity.
Palate - apples and rhubarb drenched in home made custard. Sweet desert wine influences emerge with ripe sultanas and a lovely creamy heart.
Conclusions - sweet fresh and fragrant with balanced acidity. Lots of finesse and elegance, whilst still maintaining the lively youthful elements.
Distillery History
Glendronach distillery was first established in 1826 with two stills, in an area where previously much illicit distilling had taken place. The stills were increased to four in 1966 after being purchased by William Teachers and Son in 1960, and was for sometime an important part of the Teachers blends. In 1976 the distillery was taken over by Allied Distillers and surprisingly closed in 1996. This was only temporary and in 2002 the stills came back to life. Although for some years the only coal fired distillery left in Scotland, in 2005 coal firing was replaced with steam. It is now owned by The BenRiach Distillery Company and is still producing the richly sherried style of whisky that it is renowned for.
