The Glenfiddich 12 year old is the first in a long line of quality whiskies that just get better and betteras they age.
Glenfiddich distillery - probably the most famous distillery in Scotland and the first to promote single malt whisky to the mass market in 1963. The distillery dates from 1887, the first malt whisky being produced on Christmas day of that year. The stills are direct fired by gas, and though not large in size the number of stills has grown to a massive 28 in number.
The noise in the stillhouses is amazing. After visiting the distillery one is taken to see the bottling lines and it is claimed that Glenfiddich is the only distillery in Scotland to distill, age and bottle on site. However, Bruichladdich on Islay has recently started to do the same. Unusually, Glenfiddich does have its own cooperage and coppersmiths 9at The Balvenie Distillery next door).
The distillery is still under the same independent family ownership.
Glenfiddich Single Malt whisky has been made in the traditional way for over a century. The finest malted barley, crystal clear spring water and the time-honoured skills of the craftsman combine to produce a single malt which is truly exceptional.
