Glenmorangie Nectar D'or has been initially matured in Bourbon casks then finished in Sautern wine barriques which had previously been used to mature the great French sweet wine from the Sautern region. The Nectar D'or has been bottled at 46%abv.
Glenmorangie (means the Glen of Tranquillity) distillery opened in 1843. Originally with two stills these were increased to four in 1980 and increased again in 1990 to 8. The area was notorious for illicit stills dating back to the 1700's.
Glenmorangie is the most popular single malt consumed in Scotland, and is also known for having Scotland's tallest stills at 17 feet 10 inches high. A highly creative distillery, all new make goes in to ex Bourbon casks then some whiskies are finished in a variety of casks resulting in a unique style. Glenmorangie were the market leader in these superb style of finishes. This method has a double whammy in that the woodiness out of the malt whisky and imparting some of the final cask's nuances. The results as they say 'are truly exceptional'.
