Glenturret Distillery claims to be Scotland's oldest distillery. Built in 1775 as a farm distillery, silent from 1929 and the stills removed, it reverted to farm use only to reopen in 1960 as a source of single malt whisky for blending purposes. However, Glenturret continued to grow in name and the whisky was marketed as a single malt and the distillery (and the Famous Grouse Experience which is now sited there) is one of Scotland's major tourist attractions.
