The Guyana Uitvlught 1998 has been produced using a column still. Straw in colour, the nose is of medium intensity fruity with a hint of not unpleasant iodine. The palate has a really pleasant 'bite' complex, sweet yet dry giving a long lingering finish.
Dutch, French and British Guyana were all united as one entity as British Guyana between 1831 and 1966 when Guyana gained independence. In the 17th century there were in excess of 200 distilleries which gradually shrank until only 3 remained in the 1970s. They were Enmore, Uitvlugt and Diamond all 3 of which have subsequently been merged into Demerara Distillers Ltd based at Diamond. Enmore closed in 1993 and Uitvlugt in 2000. At the time of distilling our rums Enmore would still have been using the famous wooden coffey still and Uitvlugt a four column still.
