This Scapa 1980 25 year old expression was distilled in 1980 and bottled in 2005 at 54.01%abv. A rare and limited editionit comes in the most handsome of wooden tubes.
Scapa distillery is at this time Scotland's second most northerly distillery - at present the crown goes to nearby Highland Park distillery by half a mile, but when the new Blackwood distillery in Shetland comes on line they will be regarded as southerners, that is it ever appears!!
Not often seen as a single malt whisky, unlike its neighbour Highland Park, Scapa is made from unpeated malt.
The Scapa Distillery dates from 1885 and has a roller coaster background, silent during war years and the depressed years between 1934 and 1936, mothballed in 1994 by Allied Distillers, then limited runs being made by staff from Highland Park distilleries. It's now in the middle of a major investment and rebuild. The distillery has a pair of stills, one of which is a squat Lomond still. Ageing for bottling is in ex Bourbon casks.
