Tullamore Dew is one of Ireland's finest and most widely distributed whiskeys, Tullamore Dew was first distilled in 1829 in the small town of Tullamore in County Offaly in the heart of Ireland.
The name 'Dew' derives from the initials of an early owner, Daniel E Williams - DEW and the words 'Give every man his Dew' became famous. He was employed initally as general Manager under Captain Bernard Daly's ownership. Williams was a forward thinking person who modernised the distillery. Electricity and telephones were installed. He took control of the distillery in 1903 but by the mid 1920's with recession, prohibition, and the loss of the British Empire markets sales plummeted, they stopped distilling for 13 years.
A patent grain still was installed and Irelands first blended whiskey produced to combat the move away from whiskey's full bodied oily flavour. All too late. - the distillery closed in 1954 permanently. The brand is now made in Cork using both pot and grain whiskies.
